Perspective

Deep Tech × Applied AI

As a techno-optimist, I believe the most consequential companies of the next decade will be built at the intersection of deep technology and applied AI, seeking real-world outcomes. I invest my time and capital where these forces meet, backing founders who translate hard science into scalable platforms.

Where I Invest

1

Biotech

Technology platforms that improve human health or build resilient production systems.

Healthcare & AI-enabled tools

Platforms that bring computation into clinical workflows: brain-computer interfaces moving from research to therapeutic devices, agentic AI automating healthcare operations. Technology that compresses the distance between data and clinical decision-making.

Biomanufacturing

Cell-cultured proteins, precision fermentation, and bio-based materials will be the future of how we "grow" food and build the world around us. As more of Earth begins to look like Mars, and we move into Space, I've found the GCC a good analog for humanity's interplanetary future. It helps that the GCC is investing aggressively to localize bio supply chains. Companies that can license or localize production for Middle East and APAC markets have a second growth vector most US VCs overlook.

Platform therapeutics

Novel modalities and AI-native drug discovery that compress timelines and reduce capital intensity. It's been a graveyard, but we're now coming out of the hole. My deep expertise in Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) keeps me grounded from both biosafety and pandemic-readiness perspectives.

2

AI Infrastructure

The enabling layer that makes frontier AI work beyond English-speaking markets.

Mid/Post-training data and RL environments

The next bottleneck after energy and compute resolve will be the data crunch. As models scale, the quality, depth, diversity, and provenance of AI-ready training data becomes the binding constraint. I'm very interested in this generally, but also specifically in the bits-to-atoms world of biology and chemistry.

Multilingual / multimodal datasets

Frontier models are English and Chinese dominant, and we're just scratching the surface with text (and some images). The real human opportunity, and the economic one, is in making AI work for the rest of the world, in the modalities we naturally interact in as humans, like speech.

Safety and alignment

Aligning post-training and safety in AI will be a vast economic opportunity on the journey to make AI work for all, while ensuring bad actors are guarded against. You don't need to go far to see how important this is, so I won't harp on it more here.

How I Work

GCC market access

12+ years building relationships with Saudi ministries, the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and the wider GCC ecosystem.

Regulatory & scientific diligence

I conduct my own technical diligence, and underwrite tech + market risk, which is a big differentiator.

Founder friendly + board governance

I understand the discipline required to represent institutional capital, as I sit on multiple boards. For me, being an ally to founders is the most important thing. Being a founder myself and a scientist, I get how hard it is to move from concept to commercial. I help technical founders communicate with institutional capital and navigate the long road.

Let's connect on something meaningful.

I'm always open to meeting founders building at the frontier of technology, especially those who want a partner who can evaluate the science, structure the deal, and open the door to the fastest-growing capital markets in the world.
